The VN-Index treaded water today on the HCM City Stock Exchange and closed at 457.87 points after a strong rally last Friday.
The bourse's trading volume increased by more than 10 per cent over Friday's level to 55.5 million shares worth VND1.47 trillion (US$75.4 million). Advancers outnumbered decliners by 116-93.
The VN-Index opened 0.97 per cent higher at 462.01. About 3 million shares worth VND72 billion ($3.7 million) changed hands, which was two fold higher than last week's figures.
Among the 10 leading blue chip stocks, five codes posted gains in value, including Eximbank (EIB), Sacombank (STB), property developer Vincom (VIC), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) and Phu My Fertiliser (DPM).
Four shares - Hoa Phat Group (HPG), FPT (FPT), Masan Group (MSN) and Vietinbank (CTG) - declined. Hoang Anh Gia Lai Co (HAG) remained unchanged.
Ocean Group (OGC) was the most active stock on the southern bourse with 3.4 million shares traded.
Nearly 20 shares rose to their ceiling price today, of which Vien Dong Pharmaceuticals (DVD) was the only blue chip.
The HNX-Index rallied by 0.35 per cent and closed at 133.31 points on the HCM City Stock Exchange.
The exchange's trading volume remained high at 52.5 million shares worth VND1.28 trillion ($65.6 million). The market condition was also positive with 137 codes advancing, 123 declining and 78 remained unchanged.
Nine of ten largest shares rallied, while only Sai Gon - Quy Nhon Mining (SQC) declined.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) continued to be the most heavily-trade share nationwide with over 7.6 million shares changing hands.
